Everyone is experiencing a worsening search problem with Google.
Search results on Google and other platforms have become useless and most people are not getting what they are looking for from these search engines. Well, that’s what a new report says about the state of search engines and how they seem to be polluted with tons of data that’s hard to analyze thanks to SEO spam.
The details of the research conducted by various institutions paint a worrying picture of the current level of search results, be it product reviews or general queries that millions make on these platforms every day. The study looked at Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo for over 12 months and tested it by searching over 7,000 product queries and looking at the results they got.
One of the main topics of this study was product reviews, which seem to have replaced affiliate marketing, where pushing a brand or product above creative content. It was also highlighted that website ranking algorithms were missing or did not work effectively, which could have helped combat the spam threat.
The concern is definitely the proliferation and reach of such content, as well as the incoming AI-generated content that is likely to share some of these search results. With the threat of artificial intelligence taking over the SEO arena, Google and other search engines will have to pull up their socks and reinvent their investment algorithms to avoid the possible carnage that awaits in the near future.
The research makes it clear that the results are likely to worsen, but all is not doom and gloom, only if these companies take the situation and provide a suitable response to these spam threats.
